September 9: Introduction to Parallel Programming using OpenMP

In this tutorial, students will learn about some different Shared Memory models, the advantages of this approach, and the main implementations found for commercial and scientific usage. Practices will be done using OpenMP, the industry de facto standard for this model of programming.

Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of C language, linux commands.

Duration:

  • 4 hours (estimated) previous material lecture.
  • 4 hours hands-on practice. 14:00 to 18:00 GMT -5.

Facilities: Universidad Industrial de Santander GUANE Cluster.
Practices can be done as well on any Linux based personal computer Details of connection will be sent before tutorial. 25 students (max)

Languajes

  • Materials in English.
  • Hands-on practice in Spanish, basic Portuguese spoken too.

Advanced Tutorials

September 17: Introduction to GPU Programming using OpenACC

This tutorial will introduce participants to GPU computing using the OpenACC programming model.
Attendees will be given access to the OLCF’s Ascent system for a hands-on session. Ascent is an IBM 16-node POWER9 system, with 2 CPUs and 6 GPUs per node with the same architecture as the Summit supercomputer.

Pre-requisites: 

  • Previous programming experience (C/C++, Fortran)
  • Laptop/desktop with ssh client (to log in to remote system)
  • Basic familiarity with UNIX/Linux (e.g., to navigate the file system)
  • Familiarity with a command line text editor (e.g., vim, emacs, nano)

Duration: Hands-on: 2 hours (1-3pm ET / 12-2pm GMT-5)

Facilities: Registration for the hands-on component of the tutorial is required and must be completed at: Link - 40 students  (max)
